ITS Cameras help protect Suez bridge. 20/8/04
Security concerns have prompted the installation of a series of CCTV cameras on a bridge linking Egypt with the Sinai Peninsula.

The bridge over the Suez canal, near Al Qantara in Northern Egypt, passes through one of the most politically sensitive regions in the world and was designed to carry up to 28,000 vehicles a day.

With the ever-present threat of terrorism in the area and the need to maintain traffic flow, contracts have been signed for the provision of 14 Autoscope Solo Pro detection systems. The cameras automatically detect stopped vehicles, queuing traffic and the speed of vehicles using the bridge. Linked to a central control room on the Sinai side, an audible alarm warns of any abnormal situation and allows control-room operators to close access roads to the bridge through the use of VMS.
