OnStar has announced an enhancement to their sixth generation of hardware today that adds Spanish to the original options of French and English in their on-board navigation system.
Subscribers will be able to interact with a voice recognition system in their preferred language but only after an OnStar advisor is contacted to change the voice recognition prompts. Until now Spanish has only been available through the OnStar call centre advice service.
Speaking at the recent Management Briefing Seminar in the US, OnStar's CEO Chet Huber defended the company's policy of constant change which has seen its service offering evolve from a basic emergency assistance system into a full telematics and on-board entertainment service with 2.7 million subscribers a month.
"The business model keeps evolving and the challenge is what to do next," said Huber. "It's not total chaos. A key part of the OnStar strategy is simply to grab opportunities as they arise."
